Construction projects require the orchestration of men, materials and equipment. A key component of the successful mix of those resources is the proper planning of manpower. That evaluation is one of the most challenging tasks in today’s construction environment. Evaluating manpower needs for critical trades in advance of commencing the work and effectively recruiting those workmen is often the determining factor of successful projects. Pearson recommends that contractors utilize detailed manhour estimates of critical trades and manpower loading of activities scheduling those trades. During the monitoring phase, Pearson checks daily reports and certified payrolls to determine whether a proper workforce is in place, thus providing a check of progress more frequently than the typical monthly schedule updates. Lack of proper manpower can be the cause of crippling project delays.
