Construction of this south Florida mega-resort was funded by the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. When the project was about 30% complete, the U.S. government determined that some of the funding was inappropriate. Pearson and its joint-venture partner were retained to provide on-site Management of disbursements, design, construction, scheduling, document control, change order and claim management. At the peak, Pearson and its joint-venture partner employed more than 20 personnel on the project. This resort is a 40-story, 998-room five-star hotel with more than 1,250,000 square feet of guestroom, parking, terrace, and pool deck; connected to an eight-story convention center with more than 800,000 square feet of convention/meeting space, parking and terraces. Adjacent to the hotel and convention center is a hotel support development with retail, courtyard, parking and mechanical areas of approximately 700,000 square feet. The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa boasts the largest and most complete Convention Center and meeting facilities in South Florida. In addition, there is a detached Country Club facility with a championship golf course, tennis center, a European-inspired spa and an array of dining options.
